Michael Mercer grew up in
suburban L.A. during the Sixties, studied at UC Berkeley, learned fiction
writing from Thaisa Frank and Leonard Bishop, among others, and at 39 left
San Francisco’s financial district for the expatriate artist community of
Todos Santos, Mexico, where he
now lives and writes in the company of
Gloria Marie V., a painter.

Mexicoland is
Mercer's first collection of stories (Barking Dog Books, 1999), followed by
Bandidos in 2004. Two novels have yet to be
published: Fish The World, a black-humored political love story set
in L.A. and Baja in election-year 1976; and The Night Traveler, an
apocalyptic parable on the terrorism of the imagination. Michael Mercer can be reached at
